Renting Textbooks

This New York Times article discusses a growing business that allows college students to rent their textbooks--science books that can cost over $125 can be rented for half the price. This seems like it could be one solution for the often-overwhelming inflation of book costs.

About the Blog

I am a former adjunct professor with a doctoral degree in English. I taught at large research-I universities as well as a small, private liberal arts university (my undergraduate alma mater, in fact). After five years of adjuncting, I left academia to become a university program coordinator, and now I am a writing consultant and tutor. This blog began in January 2009 as a forum for students and interested parties to discuss assigned readings and ongoing debates for a first-year seminar entitled "The University: Past, Present, Future." The course ended in May 2009, but as the former instructor of the class and someone who continues to think, care, discuss, and research about academic issues even after leaving the fold, I will continue to post links and responses to issues pertaining to higher education.
